Paul Chen

We are delighted to welcome Paul as the newest member of our team. Paul’s interest in camping and woodcraft began from a very young age, having been introduced to the outdoors by his father in the 50s in the Pacific Northwest. As a young man, he lived and studied in Northern America. In his late teens he was a member of the Mater Cleri Mountain Men who enjoyed weekend fishing and camping in wilderness areas of North America.

Paul has a long history in Bushcraft and outdoor living skills having studied in both the UK and North America where he spent a decade in Idaho as an apprentice saddle-maker and ranch-hand prior to returning to England to search out his family roots. In 1995, Paul had a skydiving incident in Florida leaving him with a shattered elbow and broken hip.

With metalwork and a new hip his recuperation began and he has had to learn to use his non-dominant left arm. This life-changing event prompted Paul to re-evaluate his future and inspired him to develop his outdoor skills in a professional manner.

Paul is also a dedicated practitioner of the ancient Chinese art of Tai Chi having been inspired by his grandfather and mother even before he could walk. He has been coaching in this subject for virtually all of his life and is always willing to share this knowledge with our students. Anyone interested in pursuing this art further under Paul’s excellent and inspirational guidance can contact him via his website at [www.five-elements.co.uk]
