Woodcraft School has very recently become an accredited NCFE Centre. We are now able to provide NCFE courses through our organisation.

Target group

The course has been designed specifically for the 14 plus age group and although would be of benefit to any youngster, it is specifically aimed at those who are having difficulty with normal academic life. We envisage it to be of use to centers preparing for the launch of the new 14 - 19 diplomas set to come on line over the next few months and years.

This programme would also be ideal for scouts and Duke of Edinburgh.

Course content

  • woodland management
  • felling and harvesting materials
  • cleaving and converting timber
  • tool use and maintenance
  • hedgelaying
  • charcoal burning
  • coppice crafts
  • First aid training

Accreditation

Candidates will be using the course to work towards the NCFE level 2 woodcraft certificate a nationally accredited award currently on the QCA framework.

Certification

Certification is administered by NCFE who will provide a level 2 certificate in creative craft (woodcraft)  to candidates upon successful completion of the course.

Also incorporating the John Muir Trust Award

The course has been designed specifically to give a solid grounding in traditional woodland management and crafts. There is an increasing interest in both of these areas because the conservation benefits of traditional management are well known. At the same time this course will promote self confidence, life skills and creates a work structure and ethos as well as fostering and appreciation of the natural world.

Part of the scheme involves each group producing their own products to sell and the proceeds of any sales will be given to a charity of their choice.

Progression

Successful candidates could progress either into employment or onto a higher qualification such as a practical habitat management or a countryside management course.

If you have any questions or would like more information about this course please feel free to contact us for an informal chat.

Fees

Please note that we are unable to offer student funding. However it is likely that funding will be available from other sources and we are always happy to discuss various options with you.

Group sizes and instructors have a close ratio of 1:6 and we will ask for school staff to be present depending on numbers and gender. Cost includes lunch and hot drinks available all day, all materials and registration with the NCFE at £30 per student.

*(Plus) -whilst we endeavour to ensure the students complete their work in the period alloted, we can offer extra days if students have missed instruction or want to a bit more time to complete thier products.
